BBI has a six-track railway station with three platforms directly below the terminal with excellent connections to downtown Berlin and the surrounding region. The underground BBI Railway Station measures a total of 405 metres in length and 60 metres in width. It has two platforms for regional and inter-city trains as well as a platform for S-Bahn trains. Construction work began in July 2007.

The terminal with its divided facades and clear geometric forms continues architectural elements ranging from the Prussian designer Karl Friedrich Schinkel to the Bauhaus style. The central access road, which will be an avenue lined with trees, picks up characteristic features from the townscapes and countryside of the Berlin/Brandenburg region.

The architectural and technical design of the new control tower of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH is in line with the conditions and requirements of BBI Airport. The newly developed elliptic tower with just four supports offers room for eleven workers.

The BBI Infotower has been the centrepiece of construction marketing since November 2007 and is situated right on the construction site. The BBI Infotower offers visitors a fascinating view over Europe’s biggest airport construction site from a height of 32 metres. Berlin Airports was able to welcome 50,000 visitors in the first year alone. All the latest information on construction progress can be seen in the visitor pavilion, adjacent to the observation tower.
