It’s just one big event after another here at the moment! Last week I was celebrating my sensational performance in the AirportRun, and this week, before I could say Jiminy Cricket, my feelers were homing in on the BBI again.
Full concentration is needed here, too, as we have just started construction work on the BBI underground station – a megaproject! We will be casting no fewer than 236 concrete posts as far as 20 metres below ground. Ground? Loose, fine Brandenburg sand, that’s what it is. And our job is to build a firm foundation on that sand. So firm, in fact, that it will support the huge station, which will cover an area 405 metres by approximately 60 metres.
Where will we get all the concrete, you ask? From our own, specially built concrete factory, in which we can make up to 10,000 cubic metres of concrete a day – quick as a flash, at the click of a mouse. We still need an awful lot of concrete, too. Once the foundations have been laid, we will start to use concrete in a big way because that’s when structural work on the station gets under way. Then we will see the station gradually rising section by section into the sky. I can hardly wait!
