Mamma mia, I’m really ready for a couple of weeks’ holiday. Somewhere on the Mediterranean, maybe - Mallorca, paella, sangria and nothing to do all day but take it easy – just like all the other lucky people who’ve been heading south ever since the beginning of the summer holidays. From the BBI construction site, I can see that there are more holiday planes taking off from Schoenfeld, particularly charter flights to Turkey and Bulgaria, cut-price carriers departing in every imaginable direction. Oh yes, it would be great to just pack a case and set off somewhere.

But at the moment I simply cannot get away. The site is a constant hive of activity and I have more than enough to do here. Work on the underground BBI station is in full swing and the BBI Infotower is getting higher every day. Only last Friday, we hoisted the observation platform into position. It looks very impressive. We’re really making progress, I can tell you, and that’s how things are going to stay all through the school holidays. Spain will just have to wait. I do have one consolation, though: summer returned to Germany over the weekend when the high-pressure front Andrea brought us some hot air from North Africa – ideal conditions for a dreamy Sunday afternoon on the banks of the Wannsee lake. Glorious!
