This is something I have been looking forward to for weeks now and the big day arrived today! With Mr Wowereit and Mr Platzeck on hand as well as a host of illustrious guests and members of the press, we at last opened the BBI Infotower on our construction site. Everyone was delighted with our wonderful piece of work and enthusiastic words and lots of applause could be heard on all sides. A “proper eyecatcher” was how our prime minister of Brandenburg described it. And a truer word he could not have spoken – as you can now find out for yourselves because from now on the Infotower is open to visitors. You can sign up with our people at airportworld for one of the four daily tours. Well anyway, my own humble self was given the honour of handing the symbolic key to the tower over to our airport managers. To be honest, I didn’t really want to part with it at first, it felt so good there in my hands. But everyone was looking at me so expectantly – and the audience was bursting with curiosity and simply dying to get in and climb the tower. There was a second part in the grand opening ceremony to be performed, too, however: the untying of the huge red bow around the middle of the tower. Messrs Wowereit and Platzeck took care of that. They climbed into an auto lift and rode a few metres up into the air, the audience below looking on in feverish anticipation despite the cold and the wind, and suddenly the bow was off and our “eyecatcher” officially opened.
