Last week, the whole world was visiting Berlin. In the end, everyone here was just longing to go away somewhere. An amazing 186 countries had come to the International Travel & Tourism Fair, ITB, to promote their travel destinations. From A for Australia to Z for Zimbabwe, the choice was endless. Trends were set for the entire travel industry over the five days of the fair, from 5 to 9 March. You could almost say that the decision about where to head this year was taken in Berlin. It goes without saying, of course, that Berlin Airports was there. And it’s easy to guess who the big star of our stand was – that’s right, me! I played with children and shook lots of visitors’ hands with my own four. I was also asked to dance now and again. Really! Naturally, I didn’t pass up those opportunities. Our Airports boss, Dr Rainer Schwarz, came along, too, and had some good news to report: “Berlin Airports is growing about one third faster than the civil aviation market in Germany, Europe and the world.” Pretty impressive! Something else that also turned a few heads was our new exhibition stand, where we had built a model of the BBI-Infotower. I used our BBI model to explain to the visitors how the future Capital City Airport will one day look. I also told them how they could use our travel portal viaberlin.com to fly from one place to another but still always have time for a short stopover in Berlin. No wonder many of the visitors promised they’d be coming back to Berlin.
