When I saunter around the construction site of the future Capital City Airport BBI with visitors, the first impression they get is often of a place that's huge, busy and loud. No wonder, actually, because everything here really is a size bigger than on other construction sites. There are more people working here and there's something to see in a thousand and one spots around the site.
That's why I prefer to take my visitors up the Infotower that stands 32 metres tall and bang in the middle of all the building activity. Seen from up there, everything looks very different: the mighty excavators and lorries resemble toy cars in a sand pit, and the site, which looks very jumbled from ground level, takes on the appearance of a very well-ordered whole from above.
The view certainly impresses me every time. And I'm not the only one because the Infotower is very popular otherwise, too. It is now a year old and a few days ago we counted our 50,000th visitor: Natalia Dorozola, who comes from Großziethen, which is basically just the other side of the site's perimeter fence.
The 26-year-old student had until recently been studying in Stockholm and now, shortly after returning from Sweden, she wanted to take a look at what had been happening on the other side of the fence while she was away. Obviously, being an airport neighbour, she knows all about the site and thought of the Infotower straight away.
By the way, the Infotower will be open daily throughout the winter from 10am to 4pm.
