Armin im Garten Eden

Ever since the Infotower was opened, a relatively steep spiral staircase has been my highway to heaven. Well, almost there, at least; let’s say to the Garden of Even at any rate.

“You spend more time up on the observation platform of the Infotower than at home in our anthill,” my girlfriend, Antonia, complained recently. That certainly set me thinking. But then, I really am crazy about my job as a foreman on the BBI construction site. And the view over the foundation pit that I get from the Infotower, which opened a good two years ago, really is a bit like heaven on earth to me.

But d’you know what the best thing about it is? That the foundation pit on the site is virtually a thing of the past because any week now we will reach ground level. The new airport is out of its baby boots and from now on will be growing steadily skywards above ground. The starting signal for the new airport’s north pier, for example, that will be given at the end of March, is all part of this upwards development. “I thought piers were only for ships,” Antonia said, when I told her about it. No, I explained, airports also have piers with parking positions for the planes. The north pier at our airport will one day be 350 metres long and allow passengers to walk straight onto the aircraft.
