Getting ready to go to work yesterday, everything was the same as usual to begin with. After breakfast – a bread roll and a cup of black coffee, I pulled on my blue overalls for work, gave my girlfriend, Antonia, a kiss and a moment later I was out of the door of our anthill. Then everything was different.

On the way to the BBI construction site my heart suddenly started beating faster. Boom, boom, boom – because even from far off I could see that the giants were there! I mean the two colossal cranes that had been set up over the past few days and that I had been looking forward to for so long. Wow! All I can say is, you really should come and take a look at them yourselves from the BBI Infotower. They are big, and I mean BIG! And powerful! After celebrating completion of the construction shell of the north pier the day before yesterday, we have now started working on the roof of the new terminal.

Today, the 700-tonne cranes are lifting huge weights from one place to another. One highlight of the work so far has been the erection of the first of two bridges in the terminal’s so-called “marketplace”. At the same time, work has begun on installing the technical building equipment at the new BBI terminal, which includes 48,000 sprinkler heads and 177,00 metres of piping. Next spring, once the roof is in place, we will be holding the topping-out ceremony.
