Although the new airport for the Berlin and Brandenburg metropolitan region doesn’t open until October 2011, and despite the fact that we’re only just in the process of installing the windows in the façade of the new terminal, we’ve already got our first tenant. Gebr. Heinemann KG shook off strong international competition and will be opening a Duty Free/Duty Paid shop in the new airport’s shopping and food services area.
The Hanseatic trading company, currently under management by the fourth generation of the Heinemann family, was founded in 1879 as ship’s chandlers in the Speicherstadt warehouse district of Hamburg. Over the past 130 years, the company has grown considerably, and you’ll now find 230 Heinemann shops at 47 international airports. By the way, Heinemann is giving all passengers a price promise: up to 90% of their products offer savings of between 10 and to 30 per cent compared with high street prices.
There’s nothing I would rather do right now than take my friend Antonia out for spot of shopping there…but we’ve got a few months of building work ahead of us until the shops in BBI open for business.
