You haven’t heard a squeak from me since last Sunday, and there’s a very good reason for that! I, Armin the Marathon Man, succeeded in completing every single metre of a 21.0975 kilometre course. You’ll probably understand that I needed a couple of days to recover from my exertions. All in all, we were nearly 2000 runners at the 4th AirportRun – and it was a sensational race, across the construction site for the new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport BBI.

Just imagine: our race started right where the big birds from New York, Beijing and Moscow will be landing in future. The new south runway at BBI is four kilometres long. After completing this stretch, we whizzed past the terminal and the new airport control tower.

My co-runners were pretty impressed: the shell of the terminal was completed some time ago, and the glass facade has been installed. In the autumn, we’ll be putting in the first of the jetways along the main pier of the terminal.

Despite the authentic airport atmosphere and building site euphoria, we were all relieved to turn into the final stretch and past the finishing line at the BBI Infotower. The fastest woman, Karsta Parsiegla from Teltow, completed the race in just under one and a half hours. The Kenyan runner Edwin Yano ran it in only an hour and five minutes. I couldn’t keep up with that kind of pace, of course. But who cares: the way is the goal, as the saying goes.
