It’s early in the morning, not quite eight o’clock, say, and already the place is abuzz with dozens of technicians all over the giant maintenance hangar in which six Airbus A320s are waiting for a thorough check-up.
Yes, that’s how I picture life and work at the future Capital City Airport BBI.
It may still sound quite a long way off, but in actual fact my vision will soon become a reality. I know this because only a couple of days ago, the property investment company Harder & Partner from Heidelberg announced its intention of building a 12,000-square-metre maintenance hangar on the western side of the new BBI. The company also took the opportunity to sign the tenancy agreements with Air Berlin and Germania, the airlines that will be using the hangar, at the same time.
The plot will be handed over to the investor in a few weeks’ time. And not just the hangar, but also another 5000 square metres of office, warehouse and workshop space is also scheduled for completion in time for the opening of the BBI on 3 June 2012.
