"Peter Lindbergh will be in town soon." This is what Antonia told me this morning at the breakfast table. "Peter Lindbergh, now who is that?" I asked. An ex-boyfriend, a childhood chum, or perhaps her rich uncle from America? Antonia immediately proclaimed me a philistine. Everybody knows who Peter Lindbergh is: the great fashion photographer.
I don't care two figs about fashion, but when it comes to art I prick up my ears. After all, there are some art constellations for BBI. For instance the flying carpet, Magic Carpet Ride, by Pae White from the United States. Ingenious! It immediately whisks me away to stories in Thousand and One Nights. Even now I can imagine how it will flutter through the check-in hall in future.
This is the draft Antonia would like best of all: a string of lights winding its way around the A380 jetway and shining colourfully at night. Gadget is the title of the work designed by German artist Olaf Nicolai. Apart from this, a star-money sky, comprising various coins, will be integrated in the floor at Arrivals. The idea comes from the art duo Stoebo from Berlin.
Peter Lindbergh, that's all very well, but my stars are the artists of tomorrow, the artists for BBI.
