Well, we’ve just put another old year behind us and I’ve decided to do the same with all my bad habits and odd little quirks. My New Year’s resolutions are: to eat better, to do more sport and to spend even more time with Antonia. But before I finally draw the line underneath 2010, I would just like to tell you about the panes of glass in the facade of the BBI terminal building.

We managed to mount them before the end of December. Now the facade is covered with 1500 panes of glass of different sizes. Most of them are as heavy as a full-grown dolphin, which is roughly 300 kilos. The entire facade is suspended from the terminal roof and stabilised by a special metal construction, the so-called “suspension cable truss”. I’m relieved that the final pane is now in place because it means the terminal is ready for winter. By the way, technically I should really call the panes “glazing.” You see, a glazing element comprises two panes, which are separated at the surrounding edge by a spacer and sealed. The space in between is filled with an inert gas. This provides the terminal with the necessary thermal insulation.
