Environmentally friendly planning
A general ecological concept has been drawn up, which includes every aspect of environmental protection, ranging from countryside and water protection and investigation into existing pollution to a waste disposal concept. Economic operating and maintenance costs are a pivotal element in the planning for the Airport Berlin Brandenburg International BBI. The development engineers place a high value on ensuring that the individual buildings and structures achieve optimum energy consumption levels.
In addition to the use of highly innovative heat recycling systems, the planning concept is also exploring the integration of regenerative energy systems – e.g. geothermal systems or the use of rainwater for cooling. During construction, ecological monitoring of construction will ensure that environmental damage is kept to an absolute minimum (e.g. relocation of protected species, use of low-noise construction vehicles and whispering asphalt for construction access roads).
