Lunch is a must. It's hard to work on an empty stomach so it's great that there's an A1 canteen on the BBI construction site. Not only do they have scrumptious food, they also have charming people to serve it. I have been speaking to one of them today, Janet Kelm from Berlin:

Hello Ms Kelm, how many meals cross your counter at lunchtime?

At the moment, we are feeding between 100 and 120 site workers – but not just in the canteen. We also drive meals out to the workers on site.

Why? Are they too lazy to come into the canteen?

No, many simply can't manage it. They only have a half-hour lunch break and so they don't have enough time to come here. That's why we deliver the food.

Super service. So what's on the menu?

Whatever you fancy: pork cutlets, casseroles, pasta, lots of meat, of course. We cook two different meals a day: one cheaper one and one that costs a little bit more. We occasionally also have an extra meal on offer, like asparagus or a stew.

What about the classics? Frankfurters and rissoles?

Oh, they're on the menu every day, of course. The brake disc is a special favourite.

Brake disc?

Rissole!

Oh, I see. My girlfriend is a vegetarian. Do you have anything for her?

Of course. But there isn't much demand for vegetarian food at present. We've only got two vegetarian customers. We serve salads now and again. As soon as more people ask for vegetarian, we will add more to the menu.

Aren't the premises here a bit small if things are going to start getting busier here soon?

No, no, we can enlarge the canteen any time. We just have to add on more containers.
