I well remember that for five whole years a red pavilion on stilts was Berlin’s landmark attraction. It was a well-known landmark all over the world – the Infobox. It’s job done after providing more than two million visitors with information about the building projects around Potsdam Platz, the box was pulled down at the end of 2000.
Today, it’s our BBI construction site that the people of Berlin and visitors to the city come to see in order to find out all about Europe’s largest airport project. Since 14 November 2007, we have had our BBI Infotower keeping people informed and it is turning into a tourist magnet more and more. Alone in the holiday month of August we had over 5000 visitors. And a few days ago, the Infotower became even easier to reach when local transport introduced a service right to its doorstep.
Since 1 September, the number 734 bus has been running hourly, Monday to Friday, from Schoenefeld Airport S-Bahn railway station – and every two hours at the weekend. This means that even for people without a car, the Infotower is now within easy reach. I’m looking forward to seeing them here!
