Antonia and I were having visitors – her parents. I always get a bit nervous when they come because naturally I want to offer my future in-laws something special. The trouble is, that’s not always very easy. You see, mine have seen practically everything there is to see in Berlin already.
And then I had an idea. Why not combine pleasure with profit and show Antonia’s parents our Capital City Airport? So there we were all were, sitting in the car ready for off, when I turned the key in the ignition and all we got were a few pathetic noises. Suddenly the thought flashed into my mind: What an idiot, I left the lights on last night! And now the battery’s empty.
“Well, Armin, looks like the trip’s off,” scoffed my father-in-law. “Oh, then we’ll just go out and have some cake,” replied my mother-in-law in a swift attempt to defuse the situation. But I don’t give up that easily. After all, an excellent public transport link now serves our Infotower on the BBI construction. In fact, it has its own bus route – the 734, which goes from the Schoenefeld Airport S-Bahn station to the BBI Infotower once an hour on weekdays and every two hours at weekends. I quickly bought four tickets for Zone C and in 20 minutes we had already arrived at the Infotower from the station. The lift took us up really swiftly to the observation terrace 30 metres up. “Well done, Armin, the journey wouldn’t have been any smoother in the car,” my future father-in-law couldn’t help admitting. “And you’ve already made great headway here on your construction site,” he continued, gazing down at our handiwork in amazement. I revelled in his praise and in the view over the BBI and said nothing, while Antonia gave me a conspiratorial wink.
