Safety First auf der Baustelle

Safety is always a top priority here on the construction site and that’s how it should be. After all, there are more than 1500 people working on the new Capital City Airport BBI at present. And safety really becomes an even more important issue when you consider that the number of site workers is set to exceed 3000 over the course of the year.

That’s why we witnessed an important event on the site this week. The BG Bau, the building industry’s accident prevention and insurance association, and the Brandenburg Ministry of Employment together set up a so-called “prevention unit” on the BBI site.

What exactly does that mean? It means that until the BBI has been completed, a number of prevention experts and industrial doctors will be working here to help with and advise us on work safety matters. This base is the first practical project to be initiated under the Joint German Occupational Safety and Health Strategy and that is something we are proud of. A mobile check-up unit is also part of the project, by the way. It will be where workers are medically examined when necessary. It’s a good thing for us because we will only have a very short distance to go to the doctor. And that’s good for all operations concerned because it means workers don’t have to take time off or spend time and money on travelling. At any rate, the new prevention unit provides is yet another proof that “safety first” is the motto on our construction site.
