So fleißig wie die Ameisen

People are always saying what busy, active creatures we ants are. And it’s true, as well. In a scientific study not so long ago, a colleague of mine was seen carrying – would you believe – 40 times his own bodyweight about the place. “That’s like Matthias Steiner, our German Olympic gold medallist in weightlifting, raising four tons into the air,” I explained to my girlfriend, Antonia. Funny thing is, though, that Antonia was not particularly impressed. Perhaps she thinks that it’s different with construction site ants like me.

But no matter, she was at least truly impressed when I told her that we did a count on the site a few days ago and discovered that we currently have more than 2000 construction workers busy on the BBI site. During the course of the year, the number of workmates is set to go up to as many as 3000 – and my present co-workers are already working as busily as ants, three shifts a day, today. All so that the shell of the terminal building can be completed this year and work on the envelope, such as steel construction and facade work, can begin.

As our boss is always saying, “This year, the BBI will get its face.” And he’s absolutely right.
