Who would have thought it? Some things are so wonderfully easy to solve. Just grab a big pot of black paint and a thick brush and paint large, conspicuous crosses on the concrete. Now aircraft pilots know they’re not allowed to land here.

These kinds of ground signals are incredibly important on a runway, especially when it’s still under construction. I’m referring to our new 4,000 metre long south runway for the BBI that we’ve been building since last year and are currently in the process of concreting over. It will, of course, only be approved for landings when the BBI opens on 30th October 2011.

Naturally, until then, aircraft are only allowed to land on the current Schoenefeld south runway – which, by the way, we’re going to use as the north runway at the future BBI. For this purpose, we’ll be extending it from 3,000 to 3,600 metres.
