“In church, a pulpit is a slightly elevated platform”, well, that’s what my friend Antonia recently told me over breakfast between two sips of coffee, “from which a member of the clergy delivers a sermon to his flock.” “I see”, I answered enthusiastically, clapping my two right hands against my forehead. “Now I understand.” To which Antonia gave me a surprised to questioning look. She’s not used to me being so enthusiastic when it comes to churches.

It’s quite simple really: we also have a “pulpit” on the BBI construction site, a 68-metre-high glass one actually. And I suppose if you really want to, you could use it to deliver sermons to flock. That’s to say “pulpit” is what we are calling our BBI Tower, which is currently under construction. The 72-metre-high tower, which was designed by Stuttgart architect Franz Ondra, will lie between the two runways and accommodate 11 air traffic-controllers and assistants in its 68-metre-high glass pulpit.

The foundations were laid in spring. Meanwhile, the control tower and administrative building are taking shape. The tower is expected to be completed next autumn.
