What usually happens is this: I get home from the BBI site in the evening, dog-tired, and walk into our anthill, only to sniff strange smells coming from our kitchen. Oat sprouts, Jerusalem artichokes, lapacho – you name it, I’ve had it served up to me on a plate.
Until yesterday, when I decided to turn the tables.
I got home as usual from the site – except that this time I had brought a vegetable back for Antonia. “A gherkin?”, she exclaimed, frowning. “Yup”, I answered, adding the killer argument that I’d been working on all day: “There’s much more to a gherkin than just salad.”
And anyway – not that I mentioned this fact to Antonia – the gherkin is destined to become BBI’s hottest and hippest vegetable.
A few weeks ago we announced the new tenants for the 23 food services areas at the new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport BBI. Now, Gebr. Heinemann, who operate the Travel Value & Duty Free shop at Schoenefeld Airport, have also presented a new gourmet product that will go on sale in their shops: Spreewald pickled gherkins in cans.
“Get one!” is the name of this tasty speciality made by Spreewaldhof, and it looks really good in its stylish can. It the perfect souvenir from the Berlin and Brandenburg region – and has fast become our number one favourite salad ingredient at the anthill.
