Yes, the cold and windy season is back again, with the temperatures dropping faster than the leaves off the trees. Despite the inclement weather, the building site for the new Airport Berlin Brandenburg BBI continues to progress in leaps and bounds.

By Christmas the glass facade of the new terminal will be finished. The entire facade will be covered with 44,000 square metres of glass, which - I’m rather proud to say - is more than the Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz. The baggage sorting system is up and running nice and smoothly, and passed its first few trial runs with flying colours. The new €40 million system can handle 15,000 bags an hour.

If you want to take a peek at the progress we’ve made, then come along to the BBI Infotower, which is open all winter. Please note, though, that from the beginning of November to the end of February 2011 the tower closes at 4.00 pm because it gets dark earlier. The BBI Infotower is open daily from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm. The two-hour “Construction Site Experience” and “Airport Experience” tours are also available throughout the winter.
