Transparency International, the global coalition against corruption, publishes its Corruption Perceptions Index every year. Germany regularly comes off pretty well, and this year ranks 15th, which is a midfield position among the industrial nations but high up on the global scale. Nonetheless: transparency and prevention still remain a constant challenge here in Germany, too.
And because that is so, Berlin Airports has been working with Transparency International for the past five years on the awarding of contracts for construction work on the new Capital City Airport BBI.
What’s more, the company has now appointed lawyer Elke Schaefer as its anti-corruption ombudswoman. Her job will be to follow up tip-offs and investigate all cases of suspicion. Should employees, contractors or business partners have anything to report, they are advised to contact Ms Schaefer or the head of Internal Audits at Berlin Airports, Hans-Günter Zerbe, who has additionally taken on the post of anti-corruption officer.
