If you ever wanted to know exactly what a Siberian winter feels like, all you need to do right now is take a step outside your front door: with the thermometer dipping as low as minus 20°C, it’s as chilly as the Tundra out there. Brrr! Let’s not forget that this is Europe that we’re talking about; Berlin to be precise. The big question is how we are going to heat our 280,000 square metre terminal in future to ensure that even our guests from warmer, more tropical climes feel comfortable.
The answer is with the indoor climate system by Uponor Classic. What’s that when it’s at home? I asked myself the same question, and set out to find out a little more about this system. Basically, it is an underfloor heating system that can also cool, meaning that it can be used for two purposes: our new system will heat the floor of the terminal in the winter and cool it in the summer. Clever, eh?
By the way, we’ll be using exceptionally durable and resilient material for the floor. Think about how many people will be walking through the terminal every day, pulling their little cases behind them, and all the staff who work here, all the vehicles and luggage carts, loaded high with bags, cases and parcels. The underfloor heating/cooling system has specially reinforced supports and cross-linked polyethylene pipes, guaranteeing warm feet and a sturdy floor!
