“Blast!” I thought this morning when I wanted to head off in my good old Opel Kadett. It was nowhere to be seen! It was probably parked illegally and got towed. So I had no choice but to take the train to work. And guess what I read whilst waiting at Alexanderplatz station for the Airport Express? “As fast as this from here to the airport”. And beneath it stood: “26 minutes”. That’s the time the Airport Express will take in future from Alexanderplatz to BER.
Yesterday the airport’s connection to the public transport network was presented. Klaus Wowereit, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Berlin Airports, Hans-Werner Franz, GM at VBB (Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association), Ingulf Leuschel from Deutsche Bahn AG and our CEO of Berlin Airports Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz presented the new advertising campaign to the press at Hauptbahnhof.
Look out for the adverts the next time you travel on the S-Bahn suburban railway or regional trains. Large advertising posters showing the journey time to the airport have been put up at almost all of the big S-Bahn stations: “39 minutes” from Zoo, “30 minutes” from Hauptbahnhof, “22 minutes” from Ostbahnhof. A train will be departing for Schoenefeld from the city centre four times every hour.
But that’s not all: the S-Bahn and other regional trains will be stopping at BER too, and our passengers can also take express buses from Rudow. Travellers coming from afar will be able to take the train straight into the airport’s subterranean station. Long-distance trains will connect BER to Hamburg, Münster and Hanover as well as Amsterdam Schiphol and Cracow airports.
So in future it looks like I’ll be doing away with using my car completely - and I’d best look out for a proper parking space too...
