Berlin Brandenburg Airport
The cargo for UPS and FedEx as well as the belly cargo at Berlin Schönefeld Airport has been handled by the Cargo Center at the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport since August 2013.
The first module of the Cargo Centre has a transshipment area of 12,000 square metres and can handle about 100,000 tons of belly cargo a year. The freight handling company WCS — Wisag Cargo Service is currently in charge of handling this service.
Customs, border veterinarian service and plant health inspection are located right in the Cargo Center. There is a refrigeration centre with temperature zones for 70–120 Euro pallets and an x-ray machine for air cargo consignments with dimensions up to 180 x 180 centimetres on the WCS premises. The air cargo forwarding agents have their own storage areas.
When Berlin Tegel Airport is closed, all of the belly freight for the passenger machines flying to Berlin will be handled at the Cargo Center at BER. UPS and FedEx cargo will then again be handled jointly with TNT Express and DRK cargo at the Express Center in Schönefeld.
