Berlin Schönefeld Airport
About 9,000 tonnes of air cargo were transshipped at Schönefeld Airport (+11%) last year. This growth is first and foremost a result of the integrators flying from their european hub to Berlin and beyond to Poland. The German Red Cross (DRK) sent relief material from its emergency centre at Schönefeld Airport (which is open 24 hours a day) to deliver medicines and equipment for the earthquake victims in Katmandu (Nepal).
TNT Express and DRK — cargo handling at the Express Center in Schönefeld
The cargo for UPS and FedEx and the belly freight for Berlin Schönefeld Airport have been handled through the Cargo Center at the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport since August 2013 because of the renovation work being done on the apron areas for express services. Handling of TNT Express and DRK cargo remains at the Express Center.
The Express Center has a capacity of 30,000 tonnes a year and can be expanded by the addition of modules as volume increases.
