Berlin Tegel Airport
Last year, about 42,600 tonnes of air cargo/mail and about 37,000 tonnes in air cargo substitute carriage (road feeder services to European hub airports) were transshipped at Berlin Tegel (TXL) for airlines and forwarding agents by the two cargo handlers Wisag Cargo Service and Swissport Cargo Service.
Air cargo facilities at Tegel upgraded to meet stricter security requirements
In response to stricter security requirements (pursuant to Regulation (EC) 300/2008 in conjunction with Regulation (EC) 185/2010), it has become necessary to screen any and all consignments from unknown dispatchers since 29 April 2013. This requirement has been met by the installation of a larger x-ray machine of 180 cm x 180 cm and dual view technology at Wisag Cargo Service. Another x-ray machine is available at Swissport Cargo Service. In addition, the handling area has been enlarged and the landside access has been expanded by the addition of a waiting lane for lorries on the car park across from the cargo yard.
