Amongst individuals and businesses the past few decades have seen a growing desire for more mobility. Over the past years in particular, the aviation industry has reported steep growth rates. More passengers, more cargo and hence also a rise in the number of flight movements also mean increasing consumption of resources. Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH has set itself the target of using savings and innovative technologies at the airport in order to achieve a growth in air traffic while using fewer resources.
In light of the complex challenges we face, isolated one-off-measures are not enough to achieve this goal. Environmental and climate protection are central management responsibilities that must be fully taken into consideration in all planning processes and procedures at the airport. The Board of Management has underscored the importance of these issues in the Environmental and Energy Guidelines which are binding in all areas of the company.
The airport operator has put in place an Environment and Energy Management System to ensure that all environmentally-relevant operational processes are optimally linked and controlled. Within the framework of these guidelines the company has set itself targets aimed at reducing negative impacts on the environment, avoiding risks and increasing legal certainty. Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH wants to boost energy efficiency even further and decrease energy consumption. The Energy Management System is an instrument that sends out crucial impulses for the company as it becomes a climate protection airport.
