The 2012 summer flight plan offers passengers flying from Berlin many new destinations and even better connections to numerous destinations in Europe and the rest of the world. 75 airlines will be taking off from the newly-opened Berlin Brandenburg Airport for 173 destinations in 50 countries. There have never been as many summer destinations in Berlin's summer flight plan. airberlin has been offering the new long-haul route to Abu Dhabi since January 2012. This will be supplemented by a non-stop connection to Los Angeles in May.
The European network is to be extended significantly with Lufthansa flying to 30 new destinations. Air France will be flying to Marseilles and Toulouse, Norwegian to Aalborg, Torp and Trondheim and Germanwings to Rijeka in Croatia. Apart from numerous other destinations for long-term airline partners, Berlin Brandenburg Airport will also be welcoming four new airlines: Jet2.com is to fly to Leeds, TAP Air Portugal to Lisbon, Vueling to Barcelona and Bilbao and Wowair to Reykjavik. Other airlines such as Condor, Hainan Airlines and easyJet will also be increasing services to existing routes.
By joining the oneworld airline alliance in March 2012, airberlin is developing its range of destinations over the long term. BER will not only be the main airport for airberlin, but also the only oneworld hub in Central Europe. Apart from the new connections to Los Angeles, Abu Dhabi and Windhoek, the airline is also increasing the number of its flights from Berlin to New York. As of May, the "Big Apple" will be serviced daily. airberlin is also stepping up activity in the direction of Poland with twelve non-stop flights planned to Gdansk and Krakow each week as of May.
Lufthansa is also continuing to expand its presence in the capital with the summer flight plan including 30 new destinations in Europe and the Middle East, including Birmingham, Bologna and Valencia. Lufthansa had already commenced new connections to Milan and Budapest at the beginning of the year. What's more, the Berlin fleet is to be increased from nine to 15 aircraft.
