Before opening in around 80 day’s time, Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt is presenting itself at ITB in its new design. The gigantic red letters in Hall 13 invite people to come and visit BER. The new airport is attracting a huge amount of interest shortly before it goes into operation – which is of no surprise, since it is, after all, the most modern airport in Europe that will be opening its doors on 3rd June. “It will be the beginning of a new era for the capital region when Berlin Brandenburg Airport opens,” says the airport’s CEO Prof. Dr Rainer Schwarz at this year’s ITB press conference held by Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. “Tourism in Berlin and Brandenburg is already booming right now. I am sure the tourism and congress business in the German capital region will benefit enormously from the new airport,” he adds. Trade visitors and visiting members of the public already have the opportunity to gain an impression of BER at Berlin Brandenburg Airport’s booth: the information counter is based on the design of the future airport’s passenger information desk, and visitors can use a model or 3D animation to already explore the new terminal. In addition to this, numerous publications as well as the new Web presence provide visitors with information about the new airport and the opening. For instance, on 12th and 13th May, three weeks before the opening, all Berliners and Brandenburgers are cordially invited to visit BER. The public festival “Around the Terminal” is the final opportunity for a walk around the new terminal. There will also be a children’s and family festival on the apron, helicopter flights, music, entertainment and interesting facts about all aspects of the new airport. The official BER opening ceremony will be taking place on 24th May in the presence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Governing Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit, and Prime Minister of the State of Brandenburg Matthias Platzeck.
