Non-stop from Berlin to Los Angeles with airberlinBerlin, 11.05.2012
The first airberlin flight to Los Angeles (LAX) took place on Friday, 11 May 2012. Ceremoniously seen off by the airberlin CEO, Hartmut Mehdorn, the Airbus 330-200 set off towards North America. During the current summer flight schedule, the designated departure time from Berlin will be 10.00 a.m., arriving as early as 12.50 p.m. local time in LA, thanks to the time difference.
Mr. Mehdorn emphasised the particular importance of this new connection for Berlin: “Los Angeles is a key extension to our route network for the hub we are building in Berlin. Attractive destinations such as Los Angeles are transforming this hub into a growth engine for airberlin as well as for tourism and the economy.”
The new transatlantic connection is the first non-stop connection from Berlin to the west coast of the United States. The current flight plan already offers the US cities of New York and Miami on the east coast.
Since airberlin joined the oneworld® alliance, the people of Berlin and Brandenburg have had the opportunity to enjoy new non-stop connections to destinations around the world as well as a further extension to the route network. Thanks to the oneworld® partner American Airlines in Los Angeles, more flight connections can be offered to customers there via code sharing.
Michael Müller, Mayor and Senator for Urban Development and the Environment in Berlin, also regards the new intercontinental connection as “… especially important for the region around the capital”.
