“We want the Games “: Olympic Weeks in Berlin23.01.2015
On your marks, get set, go! The starting shot for the Olympic Weeks will be fired in Berlin on 23 January. From then until 8 February the German capital aims to show the world that it has what it takes to host the Olympic Games. The Olympic Weeks are the warm-up event for the official bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024. Together with other Berlin businesses, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH fully supports Berlin’s bid for the Olympic Games in just under ten years.
The other German candidate competing against Berlin is Hamburg. On 21 March the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) will decide which of the two cities has won the race. In a referendum, which is to be held in September, the citizens of Berlin will be asked whether they support hosting the 2024 Olympic Games in the city. Broad general acceptance amongst the city’s inhabitants is one of the key conditions for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to award the games. That’s a decision that has already been taken in the United States, where Boston is hoping to host the 2024 Games.
