From 7 March, the Leeds route will be offered regularly, twice a week, from Berlin-Schönefeld.
An Anglo-German Christmas feeling
If you feel like experiencing a different kind of Christmas or some serious shopping, then Leeds is just the place. The Christkindlmarkt in Millennium Square is one of Great Britain’s most famous Christmas markets. Themed in a Bavarian-Alpine style, visitors can enjoy typical German specialities like pretzel, “German sausage”, mulled wine and, unbelievably, quantities of beer sold by the mass. In other words, typically German done English style. This year the Christkindlmarkt is open from 11 November to 18 December.
The spirit of Christmas is also very much alive at the Unique Gift Fair (26 November, 10/11 December and 17/18 December) as well as the very festive Kirkgate Shopping Mall (Leeds Kirkgate Market; from 27 November to 24 December).
The city in the North of England is known as a veritable shopper’s paradise thanks to its many shopping centres, designer outlets and luxury boutiques. Christmas shoppers should also hop along to the shopping centres at Victoria Gate, Trinity Leeds (home to Europe’s largest Christmas KissingTree), Victoria Quarter (perfect for all those looking for luxury gifts), Grand Arcade (Leeds’s oldest shopping centre and a place for unusual presents), Queens Arcade and Leeds Corn Exchange.
Skating fun on the ice
Ice Cube in Leeds is great for letting off steam. Great Britain’s largest open-air ice rink is located in the heart of Leeds city centre. Ice skating provides visitors a wonderful break from Christmas shopping.
Leeds Bradford International Airport is located about 16 kilometres northwest of the city. It is well connected by public transport (bus and rail) and by road.
