Berlin Airports Rewarded for World’s Best Airport Advertising

Gold and Silver AdAwards 2007 went to Berlin Airports’ International Campaign
Berlin Airports bagged the Gold and Silver AdAwards 2007 in the Airports category for two motifs from their latest campaign. The leading international publication Air Transport World Magazine presents the awards each year for the best airport advertisements in the world. A jury of over 300 airline managers representing 120 airlines voted not one but two of Berlin Airports’ motifs as being “by far the best advertisements”.

Berlin is one of the hippest major cities anywhere in the world today and as such is an increasingly popular travel and business destination,” says Burkhard Kieker, marketing chief of Berlin Airports. “Just like Berlin, the advertising for the capital’s airports also needs to be young, cheeky and creative.”

The jury members awarded gold for a realistic photomontage showing a plane right in front of the Brandenburg Gate. The jury found the unusual combination of the city and aircraft themes highly convincing and also appreciated the unequivocal claim: “Welcome to the heart of Europe!”

The second motif shows a plane parked right in the middle of the city and being given a parking ticket. The claim: “Parking has never been easy in the world’s most popular places.“ Both motifs target international airlines with the aim of persuading them of the advantages the German capital offers – its central location in Europe and its metropolitan attractions. The winning motifs were designed by the Berlin-based advertising agency Jung von Matt/Spree.

Burkhard Kieker, head of marketing at Berlin Airports, accepted the awards at a gala presentation in Washington, USA. The annual ATW AdAward was first introduced 33 years ago. This year, the jury was composed of more than three hundred representatives of the global aviation industry.
