Start of construction for the BBI taxiway system

23.03.2007
Temporary closure of the south taxiway at Schoenefeld Airport from 26 March 2007 / North runway due to close
The start of construction to link the new BBI taxiway system to the existing south taxiway at Schoenefeld Airport will start on 26 March and is to be completed by the end of the year.

As all construction work for the taxiways will be carried out on site at the existing runway, it will be necessary to close the runway for the duration of the work. The south runway will be closed as from 26 March 2007. All flight operations from Monday to Friday and, where applicable, on Saturdays between 6am and 10pm, will be rerouted to the northern runway. The south runway will be open during the night, from 10pm to 6am, and on Sundays and public holidays. The objective of this latter arrangement is to reduce aircraft noise during the night, on Sundays and public holidays for residents in Bohnsdorf, Grünau and Karolinenhof.

Berlin Airports sincerely apologises for any inconvenience to local residents during the final weeks in which the north runway will be in use. The north runway will be closed again after all construction work has been completed.
