"New opportunities for Berlin"

27.03.2007
Berlin Airports welcomes the further growth of Air Berlin, which today announced the 100% takeover of LTU.
Dr. Rainer Schwarz, CEO of Berlin Airports: "On taking over LTU, Air Berlin is strengthening its leading market position in the German capital. I anticipate new opportunities opening up for Berlin, in particular in the key long-haul segment. The tightly woven route system of Air Berlin and dba is ideal for feeder flights, which offer a solid basis for new long-haul routes."

In 2006, over 4 million passengers flew with Air Berlin and dba. Since taking over dba in August 2006, Air Berlin has become the biggest individual airline at Berlin Airports. LTU clocked up 300,000 passengers in Berlin in 2006 and currently operates long-haul flights every 14 days from Schoenefeld to Varadero (Cuba) and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic).
