Successful work for Rangsdorf’s green heart16.08.2007
The young people have really been working hard! They needed to shift more than 500 wheelbarrows full of sand and path construction material, several cubic metres of refuse and countless withies and stakes for reinforcement of the banks. In addition they erected several new ‘conservation area’ signs.
The workcamp participants invested a total of more than 600 working hours in the Rangsdorf conservation and recreation area located in the green heart of Rangsdorf, the Zuelow lowlands. Thanks to the “Zuelow caretakers” further gaps in the Rangsdorf hiking network have now been closed. The young people received help from various sources, including the municipality’s civic amenity site and the conservation and forestry departments. During their work the young people received visits from local residents and sightseers, many of whom praised the commitment being shown and thanked the participants.
The biggest ecological compensation measure for the expansion of Schoenefeld to Airport Berlin Brandenburg International BBI is being conducted in the Zuelow lowlands. This area lies between Mittenwalde, Dabendorf and Groß Machnow/Rangsdorf and comprises some 2,600 hectares of open lowland landscape.
This is the third time that the Landschaftspflegeverein Mittelbrandenburg e.V. (Central Brandenburg Association of Rural Conservation) and the Verein Internationale Jugendgemeinschaftsdienste / IJGD (Association for International Youth Community Projects) have jointly organized the International Workcamp. This international project is sponsored by the Berlin Airports.
