BBI Airport: air traffic urgently required in off-peak times26.10.2007
In March 2006, the Federal Administrative Court had approved the expansion of Schoenefeld Airport into the Capital Airport BBI in the last instance, stipulating subsequent improvements to control noise. Detailed records had to be kept regarding the necessity for flights, especially between 10 and 12 p.m. and 5 and 6 a.m. As stipulated by the Federal Administrative Court, Berlin Airports has looked into the necessity for such flights, the economic effects expected and the noise impact.
Dr. Rainer Schwarz: "The documents we have submitted clearly show that the airlines landing in Berlin believe it is imperative that air traffic is as extensive as possible in off-peak times from 10 to 12 p.m. and 5 to 6 a.m., in order to be able to operate air traffic at BBI cost-effectively. Extensive air traffic in off-peak times has meanwhile become standard practice at international airports."
