Experience the BBI Construction Site Close up

10.01.2008
Places again available on tours of the BBI construction site / Guided tours three times a day / BBI Infotower will be open to the public in time for the ILA – admission two euros
Good news for everyone who tried to book a tour to the BBI Infotower over the last few weeks but was disappointed – a few places on the guided tours have become vacant. What’s more, Berlin Airports is working hard to have the BBI Infotower ready for individual visitors in time for the ILA. A single ticket to the Infotower, which offers a magnificent view over the construction site of the new Capital City Airport Berlin Brandenburg International BBI, will cost two euros.

“The BBI Infotower is a visitor magnet. Thousands of people have already come to see how work is progressing on the site and to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view from the Infotower,” says Dr Rainer Schwarz, CEO of Berlin Airports. “The BBI site is the biggest and most important construction site in the German capital city region. There will be a great deal to see in 2008, when the buildings start going up and we being to lay the extensive tarmac areas for runways and aprons.”

Tour 2: Erlebnis Flughafen (Airport Adventure)

The second tour, Erlebnis Flughafen, starts at the present terminal of Schoenefeld Airport. This tour offers airport fans an insight into the workings of an airport. A bus takes the tour all over the airport grounds, past the runways and over to the airport fire service and the Lufthansa maintenance base. The tour ends at airportworld bbi, the Berlin Airports visitors’ centre.

Tour 3: Airport-Highlights

The third tour, Airport-Highlights, combines the best of both tours: a bus tour of the airport grounds and a visit to the BBI Infotower.

A visitors’ pavilion is currently in the making right next door to the BBI Infotower. It will provide all the latest news on the building site and the BBI.

During the winter, the two-hour tours will begin at 10.30am, 12.30 and 14.30pm. From spring onwards, the number of tours will be increased to four per day. The tours, Erlebnis Baustelle, Erlebnis Flughafen and Airport-Highlights, can be booked by phone between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, on +49 30 3091-2250. Tours costs 10 euros per person. Reductions are available for children and school groups.

NB: It is absolutely necessary to book tours by phone!

Editorial note: In order to give members of the press an opportunity to see for themselves how work is progressing on the construction site, regular journalists’ tours will be available from 2008. The tour dates will be announced well in advance.
