Quality drive for taxis at Tegel: As of January 2010, taxi rank only accessible using transponder

Transitional period until 31 December 2009 / Former agreements with Q-Park invalid as of 31 December 2009
Since all previous court rulings have confirmed the legal position of Berlin Airports as regards the quality drive for taxis at Tegel Airport, the company has now determined the next steps to be taken: as of 1 January 2010, access to the taxi rank at Tegel Airport will only be possible using a transponder. A transitional period will apply until 31 December to all those who have a former agreement with Q-Park, allowing the use of both key cards or transponders to open the barriers during this period.

The current state of play as regards the quality drive for taxis: the new quality management system has been in place for the taxi rank at Tegel Airport since 1 July 2009, when uniform quality standards were introduced for all journeys beginning at Tegel Airport (above all, payment by credit card, vehicle cleanliness) and the access road to the taxi rank at Tegel Airport was fitted with barriers. This new system means that key cards issued by the company Q-Park to the value of €72 can no longer be used.

As of 1 January 2010, a transponder will be required instead of a key card to open the barriers. An access fee of 47 cents will apply, which taxi companies can pass on to their passengers in the form of an airport surcharge.

Over 1,200 Berlin taxis have so far been fitted with a transponder.
