Gas network is operational13.04.2010
“Following the completion last year of the shell of the station, the tunnel and a major proportion of the operating services buildings, we are now filling all of these sections with life – and today it is the turn of the power stations. The completion of the gas lines and connections secures the dependable supply of heat and cooling power to BBI” said Manfred Körtgen, Managing Director Operations / BBI at Berlin Airports. “We are very pleased to have had the services of a strong and dependable partner, EWE NETZ, on this project and are delighted that all work was completed within the deadline.”
“For EWE NETZ this was an exciting project, particularly with regard to the schedule and the complexity of the cooperation with all other trades currently working on this vast site”, said Jörg Wieczorke, Regional Network Manager for Brandenburg / Mecklenburg-Vorpommern at EWE NETZ. “We take pride in the fact that we have successfully completed the job on time, despite the long, hard winter. We would like to thank everyone involved for the excellent cooperation.”
In its initial configuration, BBI will need a gas supply capacity of around 44,000 kW. The gas supply connections to the EWE NETZ network have been designed to allow the capacity to be increased as required up to the final configuration of the new airport. In 2010 the trial runs of the power stations will be conducted and systems engineering will be rigorously tested. Both of these trials require a fully operational gas connection.
In the next winter period the power stations will supply heat for the finishing work inside the BBI terminal and all other newly constructed airport buildings.
