Berlin Airports confirms record-setting performance

In August, Berlin Airports handled 2,075,015 passengers. This is an increase of 8.8 per cent on the same month of the previous year.
In total between January and August 14,358,236 passengers were handled, which is a year-on-year increase of 5.0 per cent. Compared with the previous year, not only has the number of flight movements since January increased to 154,104 (+0.5 per cent), the airlines also used larger aircraft (a 4.4 per cent rise in seating capacity).

Berlin Airports remains firmly on course for record-breaking growth. In 2010, for the first time, more than 22 million passengers will use Berlin’s airports in one year.

Schoenefeld Airport registered 716,891 passengers in August, which is an increase of 5.1 per cent over the same month of the previous year.

In Tegel in the same period 1,358,124 passengers used the airport, an increase of 10.8 per cent on August 2009.

Together, Schoenefeld and Tegel reported 20,079 flight movements, which is a year-on-year increase of 2.9 per cent.

Air freight also continued this strong growth trend: the volume of cargo went up by 47.0 per cent to 2,592 tonnes. In total between January and August 17,201 tonnes of cargo were flown, an increase of 33.2 per cent on the same period of the previous year.
