From Berlin direct to Switzerland’s ski pistes!

This winter the Bern-based airline SkyWork offers a new direct service from Berlin Schoenefeld. Up to six weekly flights to Berne give Berlin direct, regular access to the best ski pistes in Europe.

The route

On 6 December, the SkyWork plane will land for the first time in Schoenefeld. The council leader of Belp, Rudolf Neuenschwander, the counsellor for economic affairs at the German Embassy in Bern, Olaf Iversen, and Marjan Schöke, head of airline marketing for Berlin Airports, will be on the inaugural flight. The new scheduled flight will fly three times a week in December and six times weekly in January. Tickets will be sold at a special introductory price of €59 for a single ticket through the website

The airport

Bern Airport is only an hour’s drive from the Bernese Oberland and the ski regions. From Basle or Zurich, the drive takes more than two hours. Before the flight touches down, passengers are welcomed by the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau. “We are delighted to be able to once more offer a flight between Bern and Berlin”, said SkyWork CEO Tomislav Lang. “The German capital is a very popular destination for Swiss travellers and tickets have been selling exceptionally well. Politicians also stand to benefit from the new service to the German capital. We are convinced that this service is also exceptionally attractive for our German passengers. Bern is a conveniently small airport located right next to the most popular Swiss ski areas. Travelling time is much shorter and visitors save by not having to buy an expensive train ticket from Zurich or Basle.”

The German Embassy in Bern is equally pleased with the new direct service: “We welcome the fact that there will be a direct flight between the two capitals Ber(li)n and Bern. In the most literal sense of the word, it will lend wings to the mutual exchange in business, politics, culture and tourism.”

Marjan Schöke, head of Airline Marketing at Berlin Airports, said: “We extend a warm welcome to SkyWork in Schoenefeld. Only weeks before the new year begins we have again shown just how rapidly air traffic is developing at Berlin’s airports, and we are more than fully committed to continuing this success story in 2011.”
