750,000 visitors welcomed since building site marketing activities started / The countdown starts for BBI / AirportRun 2011 / Putting the new airport through its paces
The new airport for the Berlin region has become a real magnet for visitors. Last year, 250,000 visitors came to take a look at the BBI construction site. Since Berlin Airports’ construction site marketing activities started in 2007, 750,000 visitors have come to see the progress that has been made here. Around 470,000 visitors have taken part in a guided bus tour or visited one of the building site events. Around 280,000 people have climbed up to the top of the bbi Infotower to take a look at how the new Airport Berlin Brandenburg International BBI is being built. Before the new airport opens on 3 June 2012, Berlin Airports is confident that over one million visitors will have been to visit the site.

The countdown for the new airport starts in June; from then on it is only one year until the official opening of the new BBI. Athletes can pass some of the time until the big day by competing in the AirportRUN. This traditional race across and around the construction site takes place for the fifth time on 19 June 2011.

Things really get exciting at the end of November 2011, when the trial runs for the new airport start. Thousands of people will be given the opportunity to put the airport through its paces themselves. The applications process will start sometime later this year.

More information about events and special dates in 2011 will be published shortly.
