A good start to the new year: January sees strong growth in traffic

07.02.2011
Never have so many people travelled to and from Berlin by airplane in January than this year: altogether 1,547,098 passengers used the Berlin Airports in January, which is a ten per cent increase compared to the same month of the previous year.
The Berlin Airports’ traffic figures thereby see double-digit growth rates in January 2011, too – despite the air traffic tax. Particularly the mild winter weather since the beginning of the year contributes to this outcome.

Schoenefeld Airport registered 490,300 passengers in January. This result corresponds to an increase of 7.5 per cent compared to the same period last year.

At Tegel, 1,056,798 passengers were reported for the month under review. This is an 11.1 per cent increase compared to the same month of the previous year.

The total number of flight movements amounted to 17,798 departures and landings, a month-on-month increase of 6.7 per cent.

The flown airfreight increased by 29.1 per cent to altogether 2,323 tons.

All values for this month are based on preliminary figures.
