Traffic Report for September: Best monthly results of all time at Berlin Airports

A total of 2,325,832 passengers used Berlin's airports in September. This equates to 4.6 per cent more than in the same month the previous year and is more passengers than ever before recorded in a single month.

From January to September, the airports transported a total of 18,030,794 passengers – approximately 1.5 million passengers more than in the same period the previous year (+8.7 per cent). Berlin Airports is firmly on course for setting a new record in 2011 as well.

At Schoenefeld Airport, a total of 5,364,402 passengers have been recorded since the beginning of the year, a decrease of 1.7 per cent. The introduction of the air traffic tax has been having a negative impact on passenger numbers here since the beginning of the year. At Tegel Airport, a total of 12,666,392 passengers have been recorded from January to September – a growth of 13.8 per cent.

Air freight has grown by 19.7 per cent since the beginning of the year to a total of 23,575 tonnes. In September, however, the amount of freight flown decreased for the second month in a row due to the weakening economy. It fell by 5.0 per cent (to 2,371 tonnes) compared to the same month the previous year.

In September, 668,604 passengers were recorded at Schoenefeld Airport. This equates to a decrease of 4.5 per cent compared to the same month the previous year. At Tegel Airport, 1,657,228 passengers were recorded in September, an increase of 8.8 per cent.

The number of flight movements at Schoenefeld and Tegel airports rose in September to 22,239, an increase of 2.1 per cent compared to the same month the previous year.
