Information for local residents: Nightly closure of Schoenefeld Airport

Night-time flight operations in Schoenefeld suspended for six weeks / Nightly flight diversions to Tegel

Due to current building measures at Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt, Schoenefeld Airport will be closed nightly as of Sunday, 30 October 2011, from midnight until 6 a.m. Night-time flight operations in Berlin-Schoenefeld are expected to cease until 12 December 2011.

During this time, building work for the new airport will be carried out in the security restricted area – including in aircraft operation areas.

The Brandenburg Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture (MIL) approved the relevant application by Berlin Airports to temporarily suspend flight operations.

Almost all of the flights scheduled at Schoenefeld Airport on the nights concerned have been able to be rescheduled. From 30 October until 12 December 2011, a number of Germanwings flights (mail flights without passengers; take-offs and landings) and Condor Berlin flights (a total of 16 landings) will be redirected to Berlin-Tegel Airport – a maximum of three flight movements per night. Special authorisation was granted by the relevant Senate Committee for Urban Development.

Condor passengers were informed well in advance by the airline.

Berlin Airports asks local residents around Tegel Airport for their understanding.
