A new record: 3972 runners compete in the 6th Airport Run / Half-marathon and 10-kilometre race take the runners over the new runway for the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt
It was an overwhelming success: 3972 runners today started for the 6th Airport Run across the new airport for the Berlin and Brandenburg region. The 6th Airport Run was organised by Berlin Brandenburg Airport in cooperation with Berlin Läuft GmbH.
In windy weather with patches of sunshine, the runners experienced the incomparable atmosphere of the airport, possibly for the last time. This year, the race started in front of the giant maintenance hangar in the western section of BER. First the runners ran along the 4-km runway then they raced past the terminal and the new tower. The course made full use of the infrastructure of the new airport, never leaving the airport site.
The runners clocked up some very impressive results: the winner of the women’s half-marathon was Katja Czerr from Berlin, who ran the course in 1:36:49 hours. Second and third places in the women’s 21-km race went to Christiane Müller from Berlin and Manuela Edler from Berlin. In the men’s race, the winner was Dirk Kiwus from Berlin with a time of 1:17:10 hours. Places two and three in the men’s race were won by Max Böttner from Gräfen and Sébastien Durand from Berlin. Outside of the competition, Isaac Cheruiyot from Kenya (1:04:39 hours) left everyone far behind.
In the women’s 10-km race, the winner was Karsta Parsiegla from Berlin who completed the course in 0:39:36 hours. Second and third across the finishing line were Lisa-Maria Schreier from Ludwigsburg and Krissy Barduhn from Kleinmachnow.
